Packing Tips & Self-Storage Tips

Bolsa Chica Self Storage wants to help you stay organized during your transition.  For your ease and convenience, here are our Packing Tips & Self-Storage Tips.

  PACKING TIPS:
  1.  Plan Ahead!  A few weeks before you move, list all items you intend to pack & store.  For all your packing needs, Bolsa Chica Self Storage offers a complete line of Boxes, Moving Supplies & Locks.
  2.  Just Right!  Fill boxes tightly, but try not to overpack or underpack.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.  For maximum protection, seal boxes with packaging tape.
  3. Easy, Does It!   We recommend that you use small boxes for easier handling of heavier items such as books and tools.  Limit the weight of boxes to 30 lbs. or less.
  4. Label, Label!   Label all boxes clearly so that you know their contents.  Make a list of all the items, take photos and keep at your home or office for future reference.
  5. Caution!  Secure appliances with movable parts and tape appliance doors shut.  The use of medium boxes is recommended for most appliances.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.  For maximum protection, seal boxes with packaging tape.
  6. Break- It-Down!  Disassemble bed frames and tape them together.  Use small plastic bags to store nuts, bolts and screws and tape to the bed.  The use of mattress bags for spring mattresses helps to protect them.
  7. Timeless Books!  Pack books flat to protect their spines.  For easier handling, we recommend the use of small boxes.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.
  8. Delicacy!  Secure small delicate items in drawers.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.
  9. Pack-It-All-Up!  Always put the heavier items on the bottom and the lighter items on top if different weights are combined in a larger box.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.  For maximum protection, seal boxes with packaging tape.
  10. Hang-it-up!  We recommend that you use wardrobe boxes to hang clothes and draperies properly.  The use of wardrobe boxes also helps to prevent wrinkles and unwanted creases.
  11. Fragility!  We recommend that you use dish packing kits and glass packing kits, along with small boxes for packing dishware and glassware safely.  For maximum protection, seal boxes with packaging tape.  Make sure to mark “FRAGILE” on boxes.
  12. Lamp Helper!  We recommend that you use large box for lamps & lampshades with plenty of packing materials.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help fill in empty spaces.
  13.  Mirror, Mirror…!  We recommend that you use mirror boxes for packing mirrors safely.  The use of wrapping paper and bubble pack help to avoid breakage.  For maximum protection, seal boxes with packaging tape.

  SELF-STORAGE TIPS:
  1.  Map It!  Make a simple drawing that shows where your items will be placed.
  2. Step-In!  Make a center aisle for easy access to all your items.
  3. Think Sky-High!  Make sure to stack to the ceiling, working from heaviest items on the bottom to the lightest items on top.
  4. Air Circulation!  Leave a little space in between the walls and your stored items to allow proper ventilation.
  5. Easy Access!  Store items you will use most often at the front of your storage unit.
  6. Optimize Space!  Break down tables that have removable legs and leaf drops.  Store tabletops and sofas on end to save space.  Stack chairs on one another with towels in between them.
  7. All-In-One!  Use your refrigerator and other major appliances to store items such as linens, blankets and towels.  Wedge the doors open so air can circulate inside them.
  8.  Garden Up!  Shovels, rakes, hoses and other garden tools can be stored together in empty trash cans.  Stack empty trash cans inside one another.
  9. Drain It!  Before you use your storage unit, drain the gasoline and oil from your lawn mower, lawn edger, leaf blower and other items with small engines.
  10. Be Prepared!  Keep an emergency preparedness kit in your storage unit as a second back-up.
  11. Insurance Protection!  The items in your storage unit are your sole responsibility.  Double-check with your insurance agent to see if items in storage are insured.  Our in-house experts can provide you with names of low-cost insurers.  Just ask them!
  12. State Laws!  Common sense and California state laws determine what may be stored.   Hence, never store live animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids & fuels, toxic materials, or other items that need a controlled environment.
  13. Lock-It-Up!  Always use a high quality lock to secure your storage unit!
